Things To See & Do
Blue Plaque Trail
Westbury’s history and heritage is reflected in its Blue Plaque trail. It was first mentioned in the Domesday Book and held in 1066 by Edith, Edward the Confessor’s queen, Westbury had a market from 1252 and sent representatives to parliament from 1448 until 1886. The town became an important centre for the woollen cloth industry and many of its older buildings are associated with it.
It’s best to start the trail from The Laverton, although you can start from any of the locations. The trail will take you around 17 points of interest in the town, with information on 10 easily recognisable blue plaques. The plaques are numbered on the trail leaflet, and all the points of interest are marked with a letter.
