What We Do
The Town Council provides a range of services, listed below, that enable you to live in a community that is cleaner, greener and safer. These come within the remit of the council’s Town Improvement Group which meets on a regular basis to discuss these and other issues.
The Town Council provides and maintains public seats throughout the town e.g. in the High Street, on roadsides and in some green spaces.
We are always grateful to those residents who gift seats to the town in memory of friends and family. However, these benches must be purchased through the Town Council and any costs would include fitting. Also, we may need to seek planning approval for the bench installation and this decision will sit with Wiltshire Council. Please contact the Town Clerk if you are interested in gifting a seat to the town.
Although it is the responsibility of Wiltshire Council to empty bins through their waste and recycling service, in recent times, the Town Council has provided some new and replacement bins which are sited at appropriate locations in the town.
At present, there are five defibrillators installed and operational in Westbury located at various points within the town. Knowing the location of the nearest defibrillator can often save time and lives. More information with locations and postcodes can be found here
Dog owners must by law pick up any mess made by their pets in public spaces such as roads, footpaths, playing fields etc. and offenders can be issued with on-the-spot fines. The Town Council provides free “dog poo” bags which can be collected from the Laverton, Bratton Road or the Visitor & Heritage Centre in the High Street. More information can be found here
Litter & Street Cleaning
The street cleaning teams from Wiltshire Council pick up litter and empty litter bins on a regular basis. However, littering is becoming more and more prevalent and so the Town Council organises community litter picks in the town on a regular basis.
We all want to live in a clean and tidy town, so we are asking for “litter champions” to come forward to help with these community litter pics. Everyone at any age is welcome. For more information, go to our Litter & Street Cleaning page.
The historic Market Square sits at the centre of Westbury’s conservation area and we have responsibility for some areas within it – the listed phone box (soon to be a mini art gallery), underground/buried electric sockets and the hanging basket tree.
If you need to contact the Town Council on any of these issues or for more information, please email us on firstname.lastname@example.org or ring 01373 822232.
Westbury Town Council encourages sponsorship to support the local economy and raise the profile of the town through supplementing the provision of floral displays.
Sponsorship schemes provide an excellent opportunity for local companies to promote themselves at prominent locations to residents, other companies and visitors; 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
For more information you can read our Sponsorship Policy or contact us.
