Council
Town Mayor
The chair of the town council is also known as the Town Mayor – an honorary title giving no special powers.
Beyond calling and chairing meetings of the town council there are very few specific powers assigned to the chair. One important but seldom power is that of the “casting vote”. In the event of a tied vote, the chair of the committee has an additional vote which they can use to force a decision. Note that the chair does not have to use the casting vote in the same way as they voted on the original matter.
The chair of the town council has the power to sign certain documents on behalf of the town council find a few special powers in an emergency but is otherwise the same as any other councillor. Decisions are always made by majority vote, not by the chair.
